New I-35W Bridge Design

붕괴된 I-35W Bridge를 대신할 새 교량안이 그 모습을 드러냈다. Flatiron-Manson 컨소시엄과 교량 디자인을 맡은 FIGG사는 “Arch, Water, Reflection”이라는 컨셉으로 교각과 상부구조에 곡선을 도입한 PSC Box 거더교 형식 2가지를 Conceptual Design안으로 내놓았다.

원효대교

‘좋은 환경 · 좋은 건축 21′을 모토로 2005년 12월 21일 출범한 ‘대통령자문 건설기술·건축문화선진화위원회‘에서는 매달 ‘이달의 건축환경문화 작품’을 선정한다. 2006년 제1호 로 선유도공원이 선정된 이래 작년 12월까지 총 9개의 작품들이 뽑혔는데 가장 최근에 ‘원효대교‘가 선정되었다.

Robert Maillart를 계승하여 스위스를 대표하는 가장 유명한 교량 설계가인 Christian Menn의 부각은 prestressed concrete와 그 맥을 같이 한다. Ganter교, Sunniberg교 등 그를 대표하는 일련의 교량들을 언급하기 전에 오늘날 그의 명성을 낳게 한 계기가 되는 우리에겐 조금 낯선 PCS 박스 거더교를 우선 소개한다.

American River Bridge

Paul Gauvreau교수의 “The Three Myths of Bridge Aesthetics(교량미에 대해 잘못 알려진 3가지 통념)”에서 지적한 “The Customer Is Always Right (art is not created by artists, but by the public)”의 사례로 나온 미국 California Folsom시 Natoma 호수에 있는 American River Bridge. 주민들이 아치를 원해 구조적으로 필요도 없는 아치 부재를 붙여 놓았다고 한다.
