Like Painting the Forth Bridge

영국에는 ‘ (be) like painting the Forth Bridge’라는 관용구가 있다. 사전상에 나와 있는 의미는

if repairing or improving something is like painting the Forth Bridge, it takes such a long time that by the time you have finished doing it, you have to start again

로서 즉, 그리스 신화의 시시포스(Sisyphus)가 받았던 형벌과 같이, 일을 마치자마자 다시 그 일을 시작해야하는 한없이 되풀이 되는, 네버엔딩(never-ending) 업무를 의미한다.

2002년 시작하여 언급한 관용구처럼 기약없이 갈 것만 같던 Forth Bridge 도색 작업의 ‘ 끝이 보인다‘고 영국 외신들이 앞다투어 전하고 있다. 신기한 모양이다.
