SEI에서 매년 선정하는 Award of Merit에 2006년 수상자로 스페인의 Javier Manterola가 선정되었다. (Full Name은 Francisco Javier Manterola Armisen) 우리에겐 낯선 이름이지만 그가 관여한 교량관련 프로젝트만 해도 200여개가 되며 프로젝트 컨설팅 회사인 Carlos Fernández Casado S.L의 대표를 맡고 있다.

폴란드 Cracow 있는 Kotlarski Bridge(폴란드어로는 Most Kotlarski)라는 아치교인데 아치리브를 엮은 스트럿들의 형상(Vierendeel type)이 독특하다. 연장 257m 중 아치부 주경간장은 166m이다.

이 교량에 대한 기술기사가 SEI에도 실렸는데 abstract 일부는 다음과 같다.

The concept for building the Kotlarski bridge (together with four other bridges) originated at the beginning of the 20th century from the Great Cracow Regulation Plan (of the Vistula River). This ambitious bridge construction plan was not finalised due to the outbreak of World War 2.

The Kotlarski Bridge project was revived in 1998 when a competition was held for an urban-architectural bridge conception. The bridge had to cross the river in one span.

The winning design was described by the jury as “an original solution with unique features that has a chance to become the symbol of the local community and attraction of Cracow city”. [Kotlarski Bridge, Cracow, Poland]
