관심을 가지고 지켜 볼만한 새로운 교량형식인 SPS : Sandwich Plate System이 드디어 미국땅을 밟았다. 세계 굴지의 석유 화학제품사인 BASF와 카나다의 IE(Intelligent Engineering)과 공동 개발한 이 교량형식은 기존의 콘크리트 상판대신 강- 폴리우레탄-강(steel-polyurethane-steel)의 샌드위치 합성판 형식을 적용하여 교량의 자중 감소와 공기 단축 등 기존 교량형식에 비해 많은 장점이 있다고 한다.
카나다에선 2003년 이미 이 형식을 적용한 교량이 시공되었으며, 미국에서는 Virginia주에서 처음으로 적용하기로 했다고 한다. 우리나라에서도 도입하여 검증을 거치면 짧은 지간의 단경간교에 상당한 경쟁력을 갖출 것으로 판단된다.
The weight savings, reduced maintenance, and shorter erection schedules associated with SPS bridge decks allow designers and planners the opportunity to rethink the economic feasibility of long- and short-span bridge projects, and thereby help to get more out of ever-tightening highway budgets.

문제는..제작을 위한 장치들이 전부 새로 제작해야하는 것들이라..초기비용이 엄청나다는 겁니다..
영세한 국내 몇 중소기업에서 소규모 생산은 한다고 하는데..대량생산만이 실용성의 키라고 보여지네요..
우리나라에도 벌써 도입되었다고?
